Merrimack Test Run

Postby 2Firsts » Sun May 22, 2016 10:21 pm

Saturday I launched at the Cashman Circus. Do the soccer moms(and dads) normally take up half the trailer spots? Not a regular and first time using the ramp on a Saturday. There was a fishing seminar going on which added to the fun. All 3 rings were entertaining for sure. Nearly got in a fender bender with a SUV who was driving the wrong way in the trailer parking as I was parking the trailer.

Even though the shack was open, they did not put out the direction signs, so it was a free for all as folks were launching and hauling out on both sides.

Did not fish much, and did not see anybody catch anything.
Water temp was 54 off the beach and 59 in the river.
I saw 14 seals, in the usual areas.
The jetty work is completed. Daily News had a picture of the new bar light going up this week. There were a number of guys all the way out on the end of the north jetty.

The Deck has reopened after the fire last fall. Looks like a larger outdoor area. The Bridge Marina has replaced its "dock islands" with an attached system that sticks out much farther than the islands. If you follow the tangent from the last red nun to the bridge the dock runs out pretty close. Coming back to the ramp I had a guy troll between me and the dock, with a few feet on either side.

I’m going to think twice about using the ramp on a Saturday.

Can be busy depending on what time you get there. They typically only put those in/out signs if it is getting busy and the tide is moving fast. More often during outgoing whe it is ripping hard.

I was out Saturday too but haddock fishing offshore and left from rings island marina. Nice part of having a slip is not dealing with the ramps and the three ring. If you thought it was bad this past Saturday go next weekend. Ha ha. Now that will be full on 3 ring plus.

I haven’t used the boat ramps in years, but I was always impressed with how well they managed Gloucester (other than a few dick heads cutting in line), and always amazed at how poorly they managed Newburyport. They usually had more hands on deck at Newburyport, but seemed like no one knew what to do.

The new docks in front of stripers look like it’s going to be a shit show going through there.

Still nice to hear someone getting out there. Always good to get that shake down cruse out of the way too.

My boat trailer has the wheels off right now. Sad part is that my boat is on the trailer? :(

Darn seal change turned into new disc brakes all around and waiting for my new actuator to show up.

ran around the river tHis weekend; got thrashed on Sunday morning even inside (20knots NE) but found some micros with some better fish mixed in.Lanched at Cashmans early. Ramp Pretty quiet and wind seemed to keep crowds down. Didn’t get to explore as much as we wanted but was good to get out and feel a tug. The number of small fish 8-12" is absolutely Biblical…

Found some good fish on Friday 27-31", but today? My God….had to be close to 100 boats at the mouth…gave up on bass and found horse macks under the birds outside. Kept 40 for the smoker. Probably could have caught 1000.. #freelunch

Found some micros where the flats went from 1′ to 8’…literally casting up to the mud then letting it fall…that was cool. "Bass were smaller than the macks" my buddy says….thanks…didnt notice..

Congrats if anyone made it happen in that cluster. I don’t think Im ever fishing on a Saturday again. Ever. EVER.

Water was chilly I thought: 54.

Tight lines.

I’m going to give it a try with the gale force winds tomorrow. I NEVER fish the river on weekends, but I’m hopeful that the conditions thin the herd.

Am interested to hear how many boats went at it today. I gave it a rest today but am considering tomorrow. Yesterday, I hit the ocean front quite a ways south and found mid-20+ fish, fewer fish but no micros.

Even with the wind there where too many boats for me to deal with in the morning. We said screw it and went off shore. Was no problemo until the ride home. There where only a couple boats in there when we came home. We knew the ride home would be crappy, but found plenty of haddock, and was surprised to see how many people where as dumb as us out there.
